Music and family Blog
The person that I choose to interview for this blog assignment is my mother, Amanda Sardin. I actually am excited that I got to do this and learn more about her, as I have been wanting to interview her about various topics recently. I find it intriguing to learn about the people who were on this earth before us. As well as how life or the world has changed since their youth. Before I interviewed my Mother, my expectations were surprisingly successful. This is because when I am around her, she never has a certain kind of music playing. The music that she plays is somewhat diverse and I like to think that's where my open minded sense of music taste derived from. The first question that I asked my mom is "who were your favorite musicians in your childhood and while you were growing up?". Her response was "One of my favorite musicians growing up was Monica. Monica's music meant something special to me because not only were her lyrics moving, but also the r&b flow that was present in her songs made me want to listen to her music on repeat. Also, in my youthful years the trend of having a musical group was popular. With that being said, my favorite groups at the time were Xscape and brownstone." Below, I have entered a video of the girl group Xscape. When my mom originally told me about this group, nothing came to mind. However after doing further research, I came to a realization that I have heard this group before. Not only have I listened to them before, but a lot of their songs are popular remixes or samples that are used in today's music. I also found it cool how she mentioned that singing groups were popular while she was growing up. It made me realize that they're not really popular American singing groups anymore, especially girl groups. Now that this decline in female singing groups has been brought to my attention, I am definitely going to be on the lookout for recommendations.
Cam, I love when songs bring you back to good old days, the nostalgia feeling is undescribed! The song "Real Love" is amazing and I think my mom would also like this song a lot! And I agree with you that it was so fu to getting to know more about our mom's history!
ReplyDeleteHey Camiria!! That's so cool - how musical groups were popular when your mom's youthful years, singing groups were popular. That's something that even in my grandma's high school years was popular - she was in a sextet. I guess they were popular for a long time, maybe they just stopped being popular recently, sadly! :( I think that girl groups should make a come-back!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI love that you enjoyed this assignment because you got to interview your mom and got to learn more about her. I had a very similar experience while interviewing my mom. I loved learning more about her. I love the song "Real Love" I have vivid memories of hearing that song as a child.
ReplyDeleteI like how you took this opportunity to ask your mom things you had been wondering. I interviewed my dad for a very similar reason (I had never thought to ask him these things before), and I loved seeing how you captured your mother's tone and energy through just the description of her pausing before answering a question.
ReplyDeleteHey Cam, I agree this assignment was really enjoyable because it gave us the opportunity to learn about what life before us was like. The fact that it was specifically for family makes it extra special. I also really enjoyed reading how your mom described her happiest experience with music. You can tell she definitely holds that memory close to her heart.
ReplyDeletethis was a good read! It was really sweet to see your side and your mom's side of how music has affected you--the details about the same song holding memories for both of you, representing how music can influence generations upon generations within a family.
